Well you have spoken and we have heard your call. This podcast is entirely comprised of listener suggested topics, since you have all proven to be much wiser than us with your suggestions.

For the meaty part of the show we delve into the relevance of animated films and discuss the ones we like and the ones we feel are overrated, or just plain lame. Also, why do we keep hearing more and more about foreign films? Are they just that good, or do people want to be cultured, or do Hollywood movies suck so bad that people have to look elsewhere? As always, we discuss in our own special way. Then to finish things off we discuss the directors of today who will be the titans of tomorrow. Essentially who will be the Kubricks, Spielbergs, and De Palmas decades from now? You may just be surprised by some of our choices and the directions the conversation manages to go in.

Then there’s the usual early podcast rambling in which we discuss nude fight scenes, Owen Wilson, and creative ways to die in a Western amongst other things including a short discussion of Shoot ‘em Up to tide you over until the meat of the show arrives.

Enjoy and discuss!

I look forward to listening. Was I the inspiration for one of these?

  2. Jason Jones Says:

Yes, if I recall correctly you suggested the animation topic. Hopefully we made it entertaining enough for you. LOL

  3. Dan A Says:

    Yeah… it’s pronounced ‘Amelee’.

  4. Jason Jones Says:

Like Amy except with Lee at the end?

  5. Dan A Says:

No! Ah-meh-lee! Lol you guys are funny.
Anyway, good podcast. I liked the bit about directors going up their own asses and coming halfway out again. :D

  6. Jason Jones Says:

Ha ha! If we didn’t keep you on your toes, who would?

It does seem to be common practice for directors to go up their asses these days. I hate to say it, but even Robert Zemeckis seems to have fallen prey to this phenomenon. First “The Polar Express” and now “Beowulf”?

Somebody needs to tell Bob that it’s okay to film people and leave them as is. No need to digitally paint over them. We’ll get enough of that in the future when there are no more actors and everything is done with computer animation.

Although what you guys described didn’t exactly sound like it, was Grave of the Fireflies the horribly depressing anime you were discussing? It is, without a doubt, one of the best animated films I scene, and it’s a far cry of the typical anime conventions of samurai, robots, and samurai robots (not that I’m complaining), instead being about a teenage boy and his young sister’s struggles in Japan towards the end of World War II. It has one of the most heinously depressing fucking endings ever; imagine taking all the heartbreak from throughout Schindler’s List and basically sinking it into a two and a half minute moment that seems as though you should’ve been able to anticipate it, but don’t. At ALL.

Great podcast, it was good listening as always. I even leveled my WoW character while listening to it (twice if you count both this and Mysteries of the Unexplained). =D
