Podcast Episode 15: Avatar and Plot Devices We Hate
User Rating:
New year = New podcast!
Download now to find out what we have to say about Avatar’s success, plot devices we HATE in movies, and actors/movies that came along at the right time. We hit on a lot of other topics throughout, but these were the topics that sort of tied the thing together. Somehow we managed to not hit on any sort of best of 2009 or decade lists, but you can expect to see these show up in written form on the site soon enough.
P.S. - I listened to it today and realized I was extra salty in this edition for some reason. We don’t edit anything, so whatever was said is what shows up for better or worse. So my apologies in advance if anyone takes offence!

YES! No comments at this time, just wanted to say that. Good times.

Guys, we listen BECAUSE of the saltiness.

I don’t know what came over me. For some reason I became self conscious for about a half hour. It won’t happen again!

First off guys… great podcast. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I must, however, say… WTF? No “Gooooood times”?
It hardly feels like a Jason Jones podcast without it.

Hmmm… I had no idea I was even capable of going an hour and a half WITHOUT saying “good times” at some point. Sometimes I surprise even myself.

It’s great to hear from you guys again. Jones, you didn’t strike me as being any saltier than normal. Dale constantly clarifying how he hasn’t seen Avatar yet was much more noticeable to me

I guess I’ll have to remember to keep it salty then. I must be getting soft in my old age.
I do feel the need to say that it sickens me that within a couple of weeks Avaturd will dethrone Titanic as the top film at the box office of all time. I am beyond dumbfounded by it’s success.

Oh… so you save the “good times” for the Ben Heck podcast, eh?
*I* see how it is.
You just don’t love us anymore… do you… DO YOU JONES!

Hey Dale & Jason, have you guys ever noticed that a lot of times when a movie shows people playing a video game, even if it’s a modern one, a lot of times you will hear the sound from the 1982 Atari version of Pac-Man. I’m sure a lot of you had the game as I did, and the sound is ingrained in my brain and I have heard that sound in movies at least half a dozen times in the last couple of years. Even when people are playing a Wii, Xbox, Playstation 2, Nintendo 64. Do you think it’s because they don’t want to pay for the rights to use a real game’s soundtrack or image? Perhaps like music, after so many years it becomes public domain? Maybe the length of time for video game soundtracks is only like 25 years, so they can’t use Nintendo game soundtracks yet. Perhaps in the next few years, we will be hearing the Super Mario Bros. or some other recognizable NES themes in movies when people are playing games in movies. I wish I had taken note of or written down what movie I saw these scenes in What do you think? Have you noticed this in a movie recently?
