Just in the nick of time, we’re back with our thoughts on this year’s Oscars. Who will win, who will lose, and who we really don’t want to win (we’ll give you one guess). Other fun topics include…

  • Dale’s last name… How difficult can it really be to spell it correctly?
  • In an alternate reality what would it have been like had Jerry Lee Lewis rounded up and destroyed all the pianos in the world?
  • The Oscars… Why do we still care?

    New year = New podcast!

Download now to find out what we have to say about Avatar’s success, plot devices we HATE in movies, and actors/movies that came along at the right time. We hit on a lot of other topics throughout, but these were the topics that sort of tied the thing together. Somehow we managed to not hit on any sort of best of 2009 or decade lists, but you can expect to see these show up in written form on the site soon enough.

P.S. - I listened to it today and realized I was extra salty in this edition for some reason. We don’t edit anything, so whatever was said is what shows up for better or worse. So my apologies in advance if anyone takes offence!

We’re back with the Summer edition of the podcast!

Download now to find out what we have to say about this Summer’s movies. Which ones we have seen, plan to see, and avoid at all costs. Perhaps more interesting to our long time listeners will be our discussion of the movies that turned us into the film geeks we are today. Our selections just may shock you.

As usual there is the randomness that you have come to expect from this podcast. Somehow we managed to also squeeze in a discussion of the current issues facing the publishing industry and our thoughts on the best car chases of all time.

Podcast Episode 13: Random Thoughts on Costner, The Oscars, and the Best of 2008

After an unsuccessful attempt to record a commentary for “Commando” (even though the program said it was recording it chose not to) we decided to crank out a podcast for all of our patient listeners out there. It was inspired by a lame article on MSN that classified “Dances With Wolves” as the worst Best Picture winner ever. Citing this as complete B.S., we start there and move on to the movies we liked best from 2008. Somewhere along the way we go through the Oscar winning pictures of the past 15 years and discuss the ones we agree with as well as the ones we would change (Does anyone seriously believe that “A Beautiful Mind” was Best Picture material? I didn’t think so.). Hope you enjoy the rambling. If you’ve listened to us before, then you know what you’re in for.

Also, I thought I’d share that we utilized the power of my new laptop to record this podcast. No editing required! What does this mean to you? Well it means that we should be able to crank these out much more frequently now, since the editing process was always an annoying hurdle to deal with in the past. The audio quality might not be as good (I wouldn’t know as I haven’t listened to it other than the first few minutes), but you’ll get more podcasts and commentaries from us this way. According to the poll that seems to be what people want and we aim to please.

Podcast Episode 12: Celebrity Deaths, Romantic Comedies, and a Political Rant or Two

Well fortunately (for me anyway) I did not get hit by a bus, but I still managed to be almost a week late getting this posted. Lame I know.

Lucky for you, this podcast is a double-decker special edition of rambling zaniness as it managed to balloon into a nearly 2 hour long podcast. So I guess the old saying “beware what you wish for” has been proven to be quite accurate in this case, since you get to put up with us for even longer this time.

The first half of the podcast deals with us discussing the celebrity deaths from the first half of the year, as we reminisce about the likes of Charlton Heston and George Carlin. Then we improbably manage to wander into a discussion of Julia Roberts movies on our way to dissecting the latest “best of” lists from the AFI and Entertainment Weekly. Needless to say there is a lot of rambling mingled throughout, but if you’ve listened to us for this long then you should expect nothing less.

The second half is where it gets interesting as for some reason we wandered off into political land. If you have no interest in hearing our opinions on abortion, gay marriage, smoking bans, patriotism and all manner of other supposedly taboo subjects then listen no further than about the 55 minute mark. If you want to hear a couple of guys from Wisconsin espouse their views on some of the more heated subjects in the news these days then continue on.

Hopefully, when all is said and done, we will still have some listeners left. As always… Enjoy the show!

Podcast Episode 11: Oscars and Star Wars oh my!

Well friends… It has been an eternity, but we are back with not one but two podcasts this week.

This is the first of them and it is quite dated as it was actually recorded on the day the Oscars took place this year (late February I believe). We discuss the pros and cons of the original Star Wars trilogy vs. the prequels trilogy. To top it all off we go through the Oscar nominees and make our picks, so now you will have the benefit of being able to see just how far off our rockers we really are.

We hope you enjoy this one despite the fact that it is about 4 months overdue and that there were some technical difficulties in the last 5 minutes that make Dale’s audio less than ideal.

Well you have spoken and we have heard your call. This podcast is entirely comprised of listener suggested topics, since you have all proven to be much wiser than us with your suggestions.

For the meaty part of the show we delve into the relevance of animated films and discuss the ones we like and the ones we feel are overrated, or just plain lame. Also, why do we keep hearing more and more about foreign films? Are they just that good, or do people want to be cultured, or do Hollywood movies suck so bad that people have to look elsewhere? As always, we discuss in our own special way. Then to finish things off we discuss the directors of today who will be the titans of tomorrow. Essentially who will be the Kubricks, Spielbergs, and De Palmas decades from now? You may just be surprised by some of our choices and the directions the conversation manages to go in.

Then there’s the usual early podcast rambling in which we discuss nude fight scenes, Owen Wilson, and creative ways to die in a Western amongst other things including a short discussion of Shoot ‘em Up to tide you over until the meat of the show arrives.

    Enjoy and discuss!

Well we’re back again with what seems to have become our monthly podcast as of late.

This time we openly wonder what movies we’ll be seeing a couple of summers from now. Will Hollywood get sequeled out? Or will we be seeing part 4 or 5 or whatever of (insert franchise here) in the summers to come? Also, the AFI published another Top 100 list and like any good film geeks we take it to task on some of its selections and omissions. Some of them glaring (I forgot to mention it in the podcast, but how the hell could they overlook Ed Wood to say the least?!?

There is also the usual news and other pre-topic banter. Some of it involving Tom Cruise’s new film Valkyrie, whether or not Transformers will be the surprise hit of the Summer, and speculation on the likelihood of Lindsay Lohan making it through her twenty-first birthday unscathed.

So enjoy and we’ll catch you next time.

STOP THE PRESS! We cranked out a new podcast just over a couple of weeks after the last one! Let’s hope this is the start of a new trend. Although I’m not going to hold my breath. Enjoy at your own risk!

    Topics include:

  • Remakes worth doing and ones to avoid: includes discussion of the recently announced remakes of The Birds and The Changeling amongst many others
  • Going to the movies these days can be a painful experience. It used to be fun… What the hell happened?!?
  • Comedic actors that try to be taken seriously. Are these guys clueless or are they on to something?
  • New Oscars Awards to start dishing out. The Oscars are a pretty dull affair anymore. We’ve got some ideas for new categories to liven things up a bit.

Well we are back with a new podcast this week. It was actually recorded about 3 weeks ago, but we didn’t get around to getting it edited until now. Yes, we’re slackers but hopefully it was worth the wait.

    Topics include:

  • Brief discussion of films we’ve watched lately including Children of Men, Hot Fuzz, Elizabethtown, Idiocracy, etc.
  • Shia LaBeouf: Who is this guy and why does anybody give a shit?
  • Why the MPAA is bad for the movie industry.
  • How the documentary This Film is Not Yet Rated sheds some light on the MPAA situation.
  • Live Free or Die Hard: Is it worth getting excited about?
  • Shitty sequels that kill all interest in the series as a whole.
  • Why Mel Gibson and Nicolas Cage rock!
  • And a whole bunch of other nonsense involving Bruce Willis, Arnold, and explosions.
